Hey everyone, as you may noticed, I abandoned the development of DaneeCloud. Today I'll tell you what was it, why I did what I did and what will happen with the project in the future.

What was DaneeCloud​

DaneeCloud was my very first big web application. The project originally started in December 2022. v1.0.0 was relased in February 2023 and the development & improving the project continued until March 2024 (v1.10.3), when I didn't had much ideas what to improve or add. I haven't had much expierence in web development in that time so the whole code was.. well it wasn't good.

It should work like self-hosted cloud service (something like NextCloud).

  • DaneeCloud disposed of:
    • File managment
    • User managment
    • Built-in video & audio player
    • Advanced API
    • Addons
    • Multiple languages

The project also had a lot of other stuff like NPM package that handled the DaneeCloud API for the user or Discord bot and themes.

Why​

Like I said earlier I abandoned the code because I didn't know what to add anymore. But today I decided to completely archive DaneeCloud repository. That will mean I won't add any new features, no bug fixes and no support. The addons that I created will be archived too (DaneeCloudBot, DaneeCloud DarkBlue theme, NPM package).

About the NPM package, the whole package will be marked as depracted and won't get any new updates. The documentation won't be updated, but still will be available here.

What now​

The project will stay open-source as archive. If anyone wants to contribute to it you can still fork it and make the changes.

I do not recommend to edit the backend (or even worse the frontend 💀), I recommend to completely rewrite it and publish it as your project. The GPL-3.0 license won't apply anymore.

I suggest you to take a look at my new projects like Domainer, discord bots & stuff like that.
